    Acetazide 250 mg Tablet is used to treat some types of glaucoma. By decreasing fluid production, it helps to lower high pressure in the eye and reduces the risk of vision loss.

    Acetazolamide is a diuretic, anti glaucoma, and anticonvulsant derivative of sulfonamide. Acetazolamide is a non-competitive carbonic anhydrase blocker, an enzyme located in the kidney, brain, and glial cells in the proximal tube.  Kidney inhibition of this enzyme prevents hydrogen excretion, leading to increased bicarbonate and cation excretion and increased urinary volume, leading to alkaline diuresis. Acetazolamide decreases bicarbonate concentration, resulting in reduced aqueous humor production in the eyes, thereby lowering intraocular pressure.

    Working Mechanism :

    Belongs to the group of medicines called Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors. It is used in the treatment of glaucoma, retention of fluids in the body and epilepsy (fits). Glaucoma is a condition of the eyes that can result in loss of vision and blindness by damaging a nerve in the back of the eye called optic nerve. It also helps controls epilepsy (fits) by directly blocking an enzyme in the central nervous system hence, increasing the oxygen level of the body.
